What is Balboa Nation? BalboaNation is dedicated to encouraging and educating the world about the dance of Balboa and Bal-Swing. We look to accomplish this via fostering a community on-line and off-line, and spreading information to both the hardcore, causal and interested dancers. With an idea to do just that, Greg & Mary Ann DeVries approached Jered Morin in 2001, an idea which - with the generous help of Balboa fans - continues to grow around the globe. To contact about events, questions or more please see the Contact page. Individual contact info is below. Who is behind Balboa Nation? "The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you." - Rita Mae Brown Jered Morin (funkyfreak) The Webmaster, Graphic Designer and all-around person who delays the new stuff from making it online. Err, wait... DJing, running Pittsburgh's swing forum and picking on Detroit dancers fills up time not spent more productively. Mary Ann DeVries (zzzoom) One of those Bal-crazy Cleveland dancers, she along with Greg was the main drive for Balboa Nation coming online to spread the word about Bal-Swing. First exposed to the dance at a weekend workshop with Jonathan and Sylvia, she is a constant motivation behind getting new content for everyone on Balboa Nation. Greg DeVries (Boomer) Another Cleveland dancer, Greg likes to wear French berret's that match his skirts while dancing. He says, "They accent my legs." More importantly, he is a wealth of ideas, a source of dance passion and majorly responsible for the T-shirts not sucking (among other things). |
